A near-production prototype of the reborn Toyota Supra has made its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
As , a near-production prototype of the reborn Supra, codenamed the A90, has made its first ever public appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Sadly, Toyota didn’t take the opportunity to reveal the car in full, as the prototype was covered in the same camouflage shown in last week’s teaser images. No new details were revealed about the hotly anticipated sports car either, so we will still have to wait until the production model’s official reveal to get the full lowdown.
Toyota did finally confirm, however that the and will be rear-wheel drive. As you can see in the video below, the sixth-generation Supra made its dynamic debut with a run up the famous hill climb. Chief engineer Tetsuya Tada and test driver Herwig Daenens will also be putting it through its paces during the weekend at Goodwood.
From the video, the driver doesn’t seem to be pushing the car to its absolute limits, but we do get to hear the ear-pleasing exhaust note from the inline-six. We’ll reserve judgement for now though, since this is still a prototype after all and not necessarily representative of the final production car. Powertrain details are still being kept under wraps for now, but the Supra is expected to use a BMW-sourced 3.0-liter turbocharged powertrain sending 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft to the rear wheels through an automatic dual clutch gearbox. 0-62 mph will reportedly take 4.5 seconds and the car is expected to weigh 3,300 pounds.
