It doesn't always have to end badly.
Yes, we all know Richard Hammond is accident prone. Something bad happened to him back during his Top Gear days and he was almost killed, again, . He’s not a bad driver by any means. Bad things just sometimes happen. Fortunately, that was not the case when Hammond tested the wonderfully ridiculous Lamborghini Huracan Performante for the most recent episode of The Grand Tour. If you don’t have Amazon Prime, you can fortunately watch the test drive segment here.
As usual, Hammond shows us he knows his stuff. Going through the Performante’s impressive spec list, Hammond notes the car isn’t incredibly faster than its “standard” counterpart. Despite that, Lamborghini is asking at least another $55,000 more, begging the question whether it was really worth it.
Oh yeah it is. Lighter, more nimble and track-focused, the Huracan Performante was the previously Nurburgring lap record holder until it lost that title to the . But the Huracan Performante is certainly no slouch. It’s a pure Lamborghini and, fortunately for Hammond, behaves like an internal combustion engine supercar. Going for the all-electric Rimac Concept_One supercar was something Hammond was not fully prepared for, putting it mildly.
