We were devastated when Ken Block’s classic Ford Escort Cosworth Group A rally car crashed and burned last summer during the New England Forest Rally in Maine. While taking a left turn, Block clipped a rock, causing the Escort to roll over multiple times before coming to a rest in some trees and bursting into flames. Earlier this month, Block revealed his based in the UK. So far, we’ve only seen photos of Block’s new rally car, but a new extended video gives us a better look at the car in action as it burns rubber during its first test session. It looks like Block is having a lot of fun behind the wheel but the tire torturing is being done for testing purposes, obviously.

Block’s new Escort has been reimagined as a modern WRC car with wide fenders and an aero kit taken from Ford's latest Fiesta WRC rally car. The track has also been widened by more than four inches. Like the old model, Block's new Escort is powered by a period-correct 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, but the output has been tuned to deliver 371 horsepower. Power is sent through a six-speed Sadev sequential gearbox.

There’s even a unique tribute to the previous Cossie that was destroyed last year. According to Block, parts of the turbocharger, part of a wheel, and part of a fender from the were sent to Deathspray Customs. These parts were then ground down to fine flakes of metal and added to the paint of the rollcage.

After testing is complete, Block’s reborn Escort Cosworth will be taken on a World Tour where it will take part in rallies in the US, New Zealand, Ireland, England, Poland, Italy, and Switzerland throughout the year.
