Without parachutes, they slammed into the ground.
If you’re looking for a way to receive a potential dishonorable discharge from the United States Army as well as criminal charges and fines, look no further than what 29-year-old Sgt. John Skipper did during back in 2016. According to , Skipper, a member of the 173rd Airborne Brigade, was convicted last week in a military court martial for being responsible for the destruction of three during a 2016 training exercise in Germany. He was also convicted of giving a false statement.
Skipper intentionally cut parachute straps on three during a heavy drop exercise, meaning the vehicles came pummeling to earth and were destroyed upon impact. If that doesn’t sound bad enough, the entire parachute drop exercise was caught on video and soon went viral on social media. Needless to say, the Army was pretty embarrassed.
Skipper was not only given a bad-conduct discharge, but was also demoted to E-1 Private. He actually got off fairly easy, considering the charges against him carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a dishonorable discharge, and a forfeiture of all pay and benefits. Even the sergeant first class who captured the entire thing on video from the ground didn’t escape punishment for his stupid actions. He received an administrative letter of reprimand for the way in which he behaved while taking the video. Just watch the video and you’ll understand why he got in trouble.
