You’ll need to enter a lottery to even have a chance at owning one.
After a long wait, the new . The US model is only available with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6, while Japan is. And now, a limited-edition version of the Supra finished in a special Matte Storm Gray paint job has been revealed exclusively for Toyota's home market in Japan.
You won’t be able to just order one from a dealership, however. To have a chance of owning this special Supra, Toyota is holding a lottery and announcing the winners during the Nurburgring 24 Hour race that runs June 22nd and 23rd.
Bragging rights come from the fact the Matte Storm Gray finish is only available on the RZ trim Supra, which is Japan’s range-topping model that comes with the turbocharged inline-six engine. According to Gazoo Racing president Shigeki Tomoyama, it's the first time that Toyota has ever sold a vehicle with a matte paint finish. "We are very sorry, but it requires a complicated painting process and the number is limited so we will draw lots," Tomoyama said during a festival celebrating the new Supra in Japan.
We’re quite envious as the silver shade looks stunning, beautifully highlighting the Supra’s splendid shape. Toyota previously only offered the before it arrived in the US a few months later, so there’s still a chance the silver Supra could eventually be sold Stateside.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Toyota experiment with matte-finish paint colors recently. As well as the Matte Storm Gray Supra, Lexus recently showed the one-off LC 500h Matte Prototype Concept in a shade Space Orange, although there are no plans to put it into production yet.
