This ZR1-Powered Chevy Tahoe Is The Ultimate Sleeper SUV

And you now have the chance to own it.

If you took a look at this 1998 Chevy Tahoe and walked away feeling completely unimpressed, we wouldn't blame you. Inside and out, this 20-year old SUV looks pretty much stock, although the larger wheels and upgraded brakes may tip off some enthusiasts that this is no ordinary Tahoe. This 1998 example was purchased by the current owner with just 33,000 miles on the odometer. Although that may make this one of the cleanest and low mileage '98 Tahoe examples in the world, that's not what makes this car special.

When the owner purchased the car, there was nothing wrong with the original 5.7-liter V8 engine, which produced 255 horsepower. This didn't stop him from tossing it out and throwing in a 6.2-liter supercharged LS9 crate engine.

The LS9, if you aren't familiar with GM engine parlance, is the same engine that ZR1. You heard that right, this otherwise stock-looking '98 Tahoe is powered by a 638 hp Corvette engine. To accommodate all of that power, the owner added a reinforced four-speed automatic transmission, upgraded Baer brakes, Superlift suspension, an upgraded rear end and differential, upgraded engine cooling, and much more. The entire engine swap was performed by a Chevrolet dealership in Olympia, Washington in 2012 and 2013 with extensive documentation.

The dealership has now listed the car on on behalf of the current owner, where it currently sits with a bid price of $22,027 with two days remaining as of this writing. The car looks extremely well taken care of, and practically brand-new inside and out. This could be an amazing sleeper at an affordable price.
