Here’s how Chevrolet should celebrate the Stingray’s 60th anniversary.

It was ten years ago when at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show to celebrate the 50th anniversary of original iconic Stingray racer. It also starred in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, as GM designers were challenged to take classic Corvette design cues and transform them into a modern design. The result was stunning, but it sadly never made it into production.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Stingray, and while Chevrolet hasn’t announced any official plans to commemorate it, this hasn’t stopped artist from dreaming about a 60th-anniversary Corvette Stingray Concept. The render artist has imagined the commemorative concept as a coupe, convertible, and racer, each presenting a modern twist on the original 1959 Corvette Stingray Racer.

The fictional concept lacks some of the but retains the American sports car’s long hood and short rear deck. While the coupe looks aggressive, the convertible and racer look even more dramatic. The convertible features a sloped windshield, while the racer has an exposed cabin that harkens back to the Corvette Stingray Racer Concept car designed in 1959. In contrast to the retro-inspired exterior, the interior has been appointed with modern luxuries such as a massive infotainment screen.

According to Hristov, the 60th Anniversary Corvette Stingray Concept was primarily inspired by the 1959 XP-87 Stingray Racer and the second-generation Corvette while also combining elements of every Corvette generation. It’s a fitting tribute to the Stingray’s 60-year legacy, and we can only hope the automaker has something special planned to commemorate the anniversary. The artist hasn’t said what sort of powertrain the concept would use, but the original 2009 concept incorporated a high-performance hybrid setup.
