No turbos or superchargers. This one is naturally aspirated.
For the record, Christian Von Koenigsegg didn’t build a twin-turbo or supercharged V8 for his friend, Victor Muller. Muller is the founder and CEO of Spyker, and like his Swedish colleague, the Dutch-born Muller loves powerful and exotic cars. Both have their own supercar companies, but each have their own unique philosophies. However, that alone hasn’t stopped Koenigsegg from developing an entirely bespoke 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 for Spyker.
While discussions about this engine project between the two men began back in 2012, it wasn’t until this past Tuesday at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show that the deal was made public and the agreement signed right there at the Spyker stand. Muller told us that his Koenigsegg-designed and built V8 will not only power the , but also all future Spykers, which will (finally!) include a production version of the Peking-to-Paris SUV. According to Muller, "The C8 Preliator Spyder is the only car in the world with a naturally aspirated 600 hp and a six-speed manual gearbox (also from Koenigsegg). That’s special."
And, of course, Koenigsegg gave the engine many unique touches, including pistons engraved with the Koenigsegg logo. A large number of the engine’s components are 3D printed as well. Also interesting is the fact that the engine was designed from the get-go to be compatible with an electric-hybrid boost system, a technology that Muller is fully aware he’ll be applying in the near future. "Super sports cars are the horses people will keep when ordinary cars care gone," Muller added. "In 20 years electric self-driving cars will dominate society at large." In the meantime, Muller and Koenigsegg appear to have developed one hell of an NA V8.
