This 1000-HP Holden Ute Is Insanely Good At Drifting

Watch this Formula Drift driver torture the tires of a 1,000-horsepower Holden Ute.

Some cars were built to be fast. Otherswere built to be practical. And some were built purely for showing off. Thiscustomized Holden Ute is most certainly the latter. Then again, we shouldn’t expectanything less from the team behind Ken Block’s . Australian Formula Drift driver JoshRobinson recently paid a visit to the Hoonigan Donut Garage to show off themonster car he is entering into next year's season: a superchargedHolden Ute cranked up to produce 1000 horsepower.

And what do you do with all that power at your disposal? You perform copious amounts of burnouts and donuts, of course, as we can see in the video of Robinson taking the Ute for a spin. It’s quite a spectacle. Judging from the extreme amount of smoke engulfing the area in the video, those tires must be begging for mercy.

The Ute is certainly a practical car - at least when it comes to drifting. Essentially the Aussie equivalent of an El Camino, the rear truck bed sheds further weight at the back, thus making it more tail-happy compared to a car with unnecessary things like rear seats, doors and a trunk. If the Ute was built primarily to show off, it’s succeeded in spades here.
