The Scaldarsi Emperor I Is The Most Polarizing Custom Car Ever Made

Luxury

Either the most expensive car mod atrocity or pure genius.

When it comes to extremely rare, over-the-top and hugely expensive cars that come from companies with names that don’t yet carry weight in the automotive world, it’s best to take things on a case-by-case basis. We once tore apart the W Motors Lykan Hypersport for being more of a business venture and not a product of sheer automotive passion. But when it comes to this creation (can it even be labeled a car?), we’re divided. Half of the Cartownhack office hates the design and the other half guiltily enjoys its demented nature.

The culprit behind this massively butchered Mercedes-Maybach S600, dubbed the Emperor I, is Scaldarsi Motors, a new kid on the block tuning company from Montreal, Canada. It seems as if the visionaries behind the company have let all those episodes of "Game of Thrones" get to their heads and decided to create a luxury limousine that looks like a cross between Darth Vader and 14th century Gothic architecture. There’s no other way to put it because love it or hate it, this thing looks sinister. See all those shiny accents? Of course they’re carved out of 24-karat rose gold. Up front, a massive front grille does its best to mimic Bane and Vader, but its main task is to channel gulps of air into the engine.

Speaking of that, Scaldarsi was intelligent enough to recognize that its artistic right-brain talents would probably wreak havoc on a motor, so it knocked on Brabus’ door and asked if it could do the work. As a result the Emperor is powered by the , Mercedes’ 6.2-liter V12 twin-turbo engine that makes 888 horsepower. Scaldarsi claims that’s enough to rocket this palace from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds, or enough to turn those massive and unorthodox wheels into a weapon. As expected in a ride fit for a king, the Emperor I comes with a choice of 24 colors of leather, 24 different types of animal hide, 78 types of wood, and 16 different exterior body colors. If the exterior design wasn’t ostentatious enough for you, just look inside.

Only 10 Emperor I models will ever be built, either because Scaldarsi wanted to maintain exclusivity or because they didn’t think they could find any more customers for the car. Price, as expected, is one of those "if you have to ask" things. You'll have to fork over no less that $1.5 million, and if that isn’t enough Scaldarsi is offering a bunch of optional accessories . You can have a custom key made to go with your Scaldarsi edition Rolex watch and complimenting leather handbags if so desired. If all of them sell out, then have no fear because the future will see the Emperor II, III, IV, and V, which will be crazy versions of the Mercedes S-Class coupe, Bentley Bentayga, Mercedes G-Class, and Bugatti Chiron respectively.
