The Ford Fusion May Survive Ford's Mass Assault On Sedans

Rumor

But won't be how you remembered it.

Ford turned a lot of heads when it , except for the Mustang and Focus Active. Models like the Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, and Taurus have been made all-but irrelevant thanks to SUV sales. This news comes at a time when Ford was - or so we thought. that the Fusion may live on, but not as as a sedan like it has been in the past.

Before the Fusion was ever sold as a four-door sedan in the US, the name was used in Europe on a high-roof MPV based on the Fiesta. The Fusion's European sibling, the Mondeo, is also sold as a wagon. It appears Ford may embrace the Fusion's roots, and replace the current sedan with a high-roof hatchback model. Sources familiar with Ford's plan indicate that the new Fusion will likely be a competitor for the Subaru Outback, which sells very well particularly in the northern half of the US. Though it will morph into a sort of SUV/wagon, the Fusion will likely retain its current mechanical underpinnings.
