And that's without a dealership markup.
It could very well turn out to be one of the craziest supercars from a mainstream American automaker of all time. The new 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 is a masterpiece of engineering, a culmination of everything learned (so far) from the C7 program. All-American V8 power lives, and someone was prepared to pay handsomely to own the very first C7 ZR-1 at the in Scottsdale, Arizona. has just been sold for just shy of $1 million, specifically $925,000.
The winning bid came from, not at all surprisingly, Rick Hendrick, chairman of Hendrick Automotive Group and a NASCAR team owner. Hendrick is no stranger to buying the very first production version of a high-performance and, likely, rare, American-built sports cars and supercars. Past purchases include the first and the (which is built in Ohio). As is with tradition, 100 percent of the ZR-1 auction proceeds will be donated to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization that supports wounded veterans and first responders with mortgage-free loans and assistance to pay off existing mortgages.
For those who could not match Hendrick’s bid, no need to fret. Chevrolet will be more than happy to sell you a brand-new Corvette ZR-1 for a base price of about $120,000. Considering it’s the fastest and most powerful production Corvette of all time, thanks to its supercharged V8 producing 755 hp, that’s really one hell of a bargain. Then again, the Corvette has always been an incredible bargain since day one.
