Supercar Maker To Reveal Toughest SUV On The Planet Next Week

Street legal but capable of extreme offroading.

Earlier this year, Californian automaker Rezvani , a carbon fiber-bodied sports car that the carmaker boldly branded as a “Porsche killer” with a Cosworth-tuned 2.5-liter supercharged engine producing 400 horsepower and a starting price of $95,000. And now, like many automakers, it has its sights on the lucrative SUV market. Last year, Rezvani and now teaser images have been released ahead of its imminent reveal in less than a week.

Rezvani's first SUV is called the “Tank,” which leaves little to the imagination about its aspirations. It's military-inspired as the name suggests, with a design that takes its cues from classic off-roaders like the Jeep Wrangler, but the overall profile evokes the shape of a Hummer. Offering room for five occupants, the automaker claims that the Tank is “the toughest SUV on the planet,” with a high ground clearance, body-on-frame chassis, “a world class suspension system” and on demand four-wheel drive as standard for tackling rough terrain. Living up to its military inspiration, optional upgrades will include thermal/night vision systems and ballistic armor protection.

We wanted to offer a fresh design for a purpose-built, rugged, off-road capable vehicle that was muscular, well proportioned, and brand new,” says CEO Ferris Rezvani. “The design was inspired by extreme off-road concepts typically never seen on the road, but is completely street legal and ready for production." Two engine options will be available. The entry-level model has a 3.6-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Alternatively, buyers can upgrade to the more menacing 6.4-liter V8 model with 500 hp and 430 lb-ft. A more powerful model will also join the line-up next year. Rezvani is already accepting $1,000 refundable deposits, with deliveries starting later this year.
