Get ready for a slew of new models to hit the roads.
Nearly every car enthusiast has dreamed of starting their own company and churning out bewinged supercars and other performance machines that would have never made it past the beancounters in a real world corporation. Very few manage to turn these aspirations into reality—building cars takes an exorbitant amount of money—and among those who do, the success rate is tiny. Some end up like Vector, building a small number of production vehicles and struggling with finances for several decades, while others end up like the , with only a few working prototypes to show for, and some are merely pipe dreams, like the laughable .
While many startups quickly succumb to the financial demands of the automotive industry, some manage to push through and become established automakers. Take Pagani and Koenigsegg, both founded in the 1990s and now well-known for their top-notch supercars. Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus hopes to be next.
SCG has already successfully launched its first supercar, the 003S, and has taken it racing at several prestigious races including the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, and with financial backing from its wealthy movie director owner James Glickenhaus, SCG is off to a solid start.
Only a handful of 003S’s have been made (including this white example that I spotted in Greenwich this past summer), but SCG has just announced a massive expansion of its plans for 2019 and 2020. In , SCG detailed the production numbers for several new models and goals to increase its already strong racing pedigree.
2019 will bring five more 003S’s, as well as three 004’s, . Two of these will be road cars while a third will be built to GT3 specification and will compete at the 2020 24 Hours of Nürburgring.
SCG also plans to built five of its , two of which are destined to race in the 2019 Baja 1000 desert rally. Finally, 2019 will bring a prototype of the 007, which SCG plans to enter into the Word Endurance Championship’s new hypercar class for 2020.
If all goes well in 2019, 2020 will prove to be even more exciting for the New York-based supercar company. SCG will ramp up production to deliver 20 Boots, 25 004S’s, and 12 003S’s. Additionally, there are plans for two 007’s to start racing in the WEC, hopefully holding their own at iconic events like Le Mans. While such ambitious goals can be hard to hit for a boutique manufacturer like SCG, the company has shown promise in the past, and we wouldn’t be surprised if SCG can accomplish what it has set out for itself.
