It’s called the Audi Q5 55 TFSI e quattro, which combines a 2.0-liter TFSI gasoline engine with an electric motor to deliver a combined output of 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, making it more powerful than the 354-hp SQ5. The hybrid setup’s internal combustion unit pumps out 248 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, while the electric motor integrated into the 7-speed S Tronic transmission has a peak output of 141 hp and 258 lb-ft. Audi says this setup enables the electrified Q5 to do the 0-62 mph sprint in 5.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 149 mph.
A 14.1-kWh battery located under the luggage compartment floor provides enough juice for an WLTP electric range of over 26 miles at a top speed of 84 mph while limiting the output to 140 horsepower. It can be charged in just 2.5 hours via a 400-V industrial outlet, or in roughly 6 hours using a 220-V household outlet. Drivers can choose between three driving modes: Hybrid, EV and Battery Hold, with the latter allowing the driver to maintain a certain battery charge for later use.
Standard equipment includes an S Line exterior package, single-frame grille, 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, sport seats, 3-zone climate control, convenience key, DIS with color display and much more. The Compact charging system, along with the Mode 3 cable with Type 2 plug for use at public stations, also comes as standard, while the charging clip is an optional extra.
Audi’s first plug-in hybrid Q5 is slated to arrive in European dealers in Q3 2019. The automaker is already accepting orders in Germany, where it starts from €60,450 ($67,474). That’s around $16,408 more than the base Q5. Pricing and availability in the US will be announced at a later date.
