Mitsubishi Is Open To Bringing The Evo Back But Not The Way You Want It

Update

Mitsubishi's CEO crushes enthusiasts with one quote.

By now you already know that the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution . Gone. It’s never coming back. Or is it? No, no it’s not. To be fair we’ve known that for some time now. We also knew that the only chance the Evo nameplate is if it was put on a hardcore CUV or SUV. While the last report on the possibility of an Outlander Evolution cited Mitsubishi UK head honcho Lance Bradley, this new story from Autocar pulls its quotes from the company’s CEO, Osamu Masuko.

Any new Evos are far down on Mitsubishi’s to-do list. The automaker is prepping for a hybrid and electric crossovers and SUVs, aka cars that actually sell and bring in cash. An EVO version of either of those is possible, with one catch. Masuko told Autocar that “If we can use EV or PHEV technologies for high-performance cars, we could certainly continue." None of this is a giant shock but it does hurt a little to think that the next time we see the Evo nameplate it could be attached to a hybrid Outlander.
