The convertible Carrera S and 4S arrive way sooner than we thought.
Well, that didn’t take long. Not even two months after the were revealed at LA, their cabrio counterparts have now been unveiled online. So, meet the 992-generation 911 cabrios in 4 and 4S spec.
, the cabrios comes powered by the same twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six with 443 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque, paired to a new eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. A manual transmission will arrive at a later date as a no-cost option.
Porsche claims the 911 Carrera S Cabrio can make the 0-60 mph sprint in just 3.7 seconds while its all-wheel-drive counterpart will do the same deed in 3.6 seconds.
Compared to their immediate predecessors, both times are 0.4-second faster, and are only 0.2 seconds slower than the new coupes. The S, of course, is rear-wheel-drive and has a top speed of 190 mph while the 4S maxes out at 188 mph. Minor differences, but still good to know. Also like the coupes, the cabrios can be had with upgrades such as Porsche’s PASM Sport Suspension, which tacks on stiffer springs and improved anti-roll bars, enabling a slightly reduced ride height.
Not at all surprisingly, the fabric soft top features a glass rear window and that can be raised and lowered at speeds up to 31 mph in 12 seconds. Their predecessors required 13 seconds. Porsche also added an electronically operated wind deflector to help reduce noise and, uh, wind, when the top is lowered.
Other standard features for both versions include LED headlamps, Tesla-like electronically operated door handles, a variable position rear spoiler, and that gorgeous light bar across the rear. As you recall, the , and both coupe and cabrio feature wide bodywork and staggered front and rear wheel sizes, measuring 20-inches up front and 21-inches out back. Inside, the infotainment system measures at 10.9-inches and has been relocated to a better position for the driver.
Cabrio buyers can also benefit from the 992’s newly introduced Wet Mode, which utilizes sensors in the wheel wells to detect water and will send the driver an alert in the gauge cluster, adjusting the stability control and ABS system accordingly. The goal is to avoid hydroplaning. Buyers can also add Night Vision Assist, offered for the first time in the 911 Cabrio.
Porsche says pricing for the 2020 911 Carrera S Cabriolet begins at $127,350, and the 4S Cabriolet at $134,650. The order books are already open with first deliveries set to arrive in time for summer.
