With the P1 hypercar now over five years old and the Aston Martin Valkyrie and Mercedes-AMG Project One launching in 2019, McLaren is due a new halo hypercar. That would be the BP23 Hyper-GT, which the automaker claims will be the fastest McLaren road car ever when it forms part of the next-generation hypercar holy trinity in 2019. Aside from a few tantalizing sketch images, we have no idea what the BP23 Hyper-GT will look like when it enters production. Whereas other artists have imagined the McLaren’s P1's successor to look , Milano has envisioned a familiar design that’s heavily inspired by the 720S, with a few add-ons that make it look more aggressive. The most noticeable addition is the roof-mounted air intake similar to the Project One’s, complemented with a larger front splitter and more prominent side skirts.
The BP23 Hyper-GT will form part of McLaren’s Ultimate series line-up. Little has been revealed about the car, but so far we know it will adopt a 1+2 seating arrangement layout like the McLaren F1 before it. It’s already being billed as the fastest, most powerful, and most aerodynamic road-legal McLaren yet, but it won’t be track-focused. Instead, that role will be filled by the . McLaren’s next hypercar is expected to utilize a hybrid powertrain with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine. Chances are it will produce over 1,000 hp to help it beat the F1’s 240 mph top speed. Production will be capped to 106 units, each costing around $2.5 million.
