Jay Leno describes the new Corvette ZR1 as “the greatest high-performance bargain of the century.”
The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is one of the fastest production cars currently available. If you need proof, Chevrolet recently clocked the high-performance sports car . Jay Leno also got to sample the incredible speed of the Corvette ZR1 at General Motors' Milford Proving Grounds in Michigan where he pushed the car close to its limit, reaching 204 mph using road tires and pump gas.
The speed run was shown in the latest episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, where the talk show host is joined by to Todd Crutcher, director of marketing at Spring Mountain Motor Resort, which provided the test car. Power in the ZR1 is provided by a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 tuned to deliver 755 horsepower and 715 lb-ft of torque, making it the fastest and most powerful Corvette ever built.
With this setup, the ZR1 will do the 0-62 mph sprint in just 2.85 seconds when using an eight-speed automatic. For purists, Chevrolet also offers a seven-speed manual transmission with active rev match, much to the delight of Leno. The ZL1 is also remarkably stable at these extreme speeds, which is no small feat. Two aero packages are available, including a standard Low Wing and optional two-way-adjustable High Wing that generates 950 pounds of downforce. The best part? All that American muscle can be yours for a starting price of $119,995 for the coupe and $123,995 for the convertible, including destination.
You also get a two-day driver training course at the Spring Mountain Motor Resort in Nevada. In Leno’s words, that makes it “the greatest high-performance bargain of the century.” We’re inclined to agree.
