Jamal Hameedi was Ford Performance's chief engineer. Not anymore.
Here are just some of the brilliant Ford Performance cars chief engineer Jamal Hameedi was behind: Mustang Shelby GT350, Fiesta ST, Focus ST, Focus RS, F-150 Raptor and the . has learned and confirmed with Ford Performance that Hameedi has now left the automaker for Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO). No official reason was given for Hameedi’s departure, but we wouldn’t be surprised to learn JLR made him an offer he simply couldn’t refuse.
It’s also worth noting that may have had something to do with Hameedi’s decision. However, Ford has made clear that Ford Performance still has plenty of work ahead of it. Along with future Mustangs (and maybe a third generation GT eventually?), there will also be performance crossovers. The Edge ST is only the beginning. An Explorer ST will happen next. Hameedi began working at Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT), Ford Performance’s predecessor division, back in 2005. One of his first tasks was program manager of the first generation Ford GT, built until 2006.
Jaguar Land Rover also hasn’t made an official statement regarding Hameedi’s exact position and responsibilities, nor has it confirmed his arrival. At SVO, Hameedi will presumably not only contribute his proven abilities and talent to existing vehicles, including the F-Type SVR, , and Range Rover Sport SVR, but also many new coupes, sedans and crossovers to come.
