Looks like the McLaren 600LT is getting its roof chopped off next week.
Last year, McLaren , the fourth car to carry the legendary Longtail name with more power, less weight, and optimized aerodynamics. It followed the F1 GTR ‘Longtail’ that competed in the 1997 FIA GT Championship, the 675LT Coupe and the 675LT Spider.
Next week, McLaren will reveal the fifth member of the Longtail family and judging from the teaser image and video released by the automaker, this is our first look at the – the "600LT” inscription on the license plate is a bit of a giveaway, as are the matching taillights. This will also be the third new car to stem from the .
"The edge. Raw and pure. It’s where new boundaries lie,” McLaren wrote in the video description. "Where those who dare to venture seek performance at its most extreme…This is the edge. Amplified.”
Like the Coupe, McLaren has confirmed that production of the fifth Longtail car will be limited to just 12 months.
McLaren hasn’t shared any more details, but the 600LT Coupe gives us a good idea of what to expect from its spider sibling. Power will be provided by a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 that sends 595 hp and 457 lb-ft to the rear wheels through a seven-speed sequential gearbox.
In the Coupe, 0-62 mph takes 2.8 seconds before the car hits a top speed of 204 mph. That makes it the fastest and most powerful McLaren Sports Series yet, so we’re hoping the 600LT Spider can match its performance. Also expect the 600LT to benefit from an extended front splitter and rear diffuser, new side sills, and a downforce-increasing fixed rear wing. All will be revealed on January 16 when the covers will come off the McLaren 600LT Spider.
