Is This Old Bugatti Really Worth The Price Of 10 New Veyrons?

This auction house seems to think so.

One of the most legendary classic cars ever built is due to hit the auction block at the RM Sothebys' Driven by Disruption auction in New York City this coming December. The car in question is the exquisite Bugatti Type 57C Atalante, which first went on display at the 1939 World's Fair in New York. Not only does the Atalante have stunning good looks, but it also has masterfully crafted mechanics. The 57C is powered by a DOHC straight-eight engine that produces 160 horsepower.

This is truly an astonishing amount of power for a car that was built in 1938, and is probably the reason why the 57C had a decade-long racing career in its heyday. Only 32 of these extremely rare Bugattis were ever produced and only 12 were crafted entirely from aluminum like this model up for auction. In 2013 a 1937 Type 57C Atalante sold for $8.5 million at an upscale auction in California. This specific model up for sale in December, Chassis number 57766, is in pristine condition and could potentially fetch upwards of $10 million when it goes up for auction.
