If You Want A Volvo S60 Polestar, You'd Better Act Quick

Because the high performance model will be in very short supply.

Volvo recently pulled the wraps off its , which will be built at the company's . Among the various engine options, the T8 hybrid drivetrain is the most powerful. The 2.0-liter twin-charged four-cylinder is mated to an 87 horsepower electric motor for a total of 400 hp. Those who are looking for even more performance can opt for the S60 T8 Polestar Engineered, which ups the output to 415 horsepower and 494 pound-feet of torque. Unfortunately, you will not be able to buy this more powerful version of the S60.

For starters, Volvo has announced that the Polestar Engineered will be available exclusively through the . This means you'll have to subscribe to the car on a monthly basis, with no option to buy it. The car will cost $1,100 a month, which includes insurance and maintenance. This is $250 more than the S60 T6 AWD R-Design, which is the next most expensive version in the subscription program. This may be a lot of money to spend on a car every month, but surely there will be plenty of buyers eager to own the Polestar tuned S60. Unfortunately, Volvo said that the Polestar model will be available in "extremely limited quantities."

Volvo really meant "limited," because reports that only 20 examples of the S60 T8 Polestar Engineered will make it to the US. The car will be made available to order at 12 p.m. Eastern on June 28 on the Care by Volvo app, so we can bet they'll all be sold out in a matter of seconds. It will be interesting to see who ends up with the 20 cars, and if anyone will attempt to flip their subscription for a profit.
