Hot BMW X1 M35i Could Have Over 300 HP

It will be the most powerful BMW X1 ever made.

We were surprised to learn that the BMW X1 is getting a facelift , but increased competition has forced BMW to update the compact crossover. Ahead of its debut, our spies have managed to snap some photos of the on snowy Swedish roads.

There’s still some camouflage hiding the design changes at the front and rear, but we can see the crossover is sporting slimmer headlights than the current model, as well as a new front bumper. We’re also expecting the shape of the grille and the rear bumper to undergo some changes, too, and there’s also new graphics on the taillights.

The prototype has aggressive air intakes, large alloy wheels, and dual exhaust tips, so we’re probably looking at the rumored hot X1 M35i version that will complement the . Overall, don’t expect to see any radical changes compared to the current model.

Judging from the , the cabin will also be carried over from the current model with a larger infotainment screen and an updated satellite navigation system.

As for powertrains, the X1 facelift is likely to retain the current model’s 228-hp 2.0-liter turbo engine and eight-speed automatic found in the 28i model sold in the US, while the hotter M35i model is expected to increase that output to 306 hp, making it the most powerful X1 ever made.
