Looks like the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ could be the new king of the Nurburgring.
A few months ago, spy photos emerged , suggesting that Lamborghini was attempting to beat the record time set by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS last year. Lamborghini hasn’t revealed the new hardcore Aventador yet, but a report by suggests the automaker has a surprise in store for the potent supercar’s reveal. According to the publication, reports suggest Lamborghini will launch the Aventador SVJ with a new lap record at the Nurburgring.
This implies the track-focused supercar has already smashed the record, though Lamborghini has refused to comment. Back in May, the , which was five seconds faster than the regular Lamborghini Aventador SV but 6.7 seconds slower than the 911 GT2 RS’ time. However, this time wasn’t set in ideal conditions since cones placed on the short start and finish straight slowed the Lambo down, as did other cars that were lapping the circuit. It’s certainly possible that Lamborghini has improved upon this time since then, stealing the crown from Porsche ready for the Aventador SVJ’s reveal.
Porsche might not be the record holder for much longer, as the two automakers continue to battle it out at the Nurburgring. Don’t forget the Porsche 918 Spyder held the record Nurburgring time for four years until last year when the Huracan Performante broke it. Of course, Lamborghini’s reign was shortlived because the Porsche GT2 RS beat the Huracan Performante’s time just a few months later, but Lamborghini is coming back fighting. Little is known about the Aventador SVJ, but from what we’ve seen in spy shots it will be the most hardcore Aventador yet, featuring a new front splitter, center lock wheels, and a massive fixed rear wing.
Reports also suggest Lamborghini has extracted over 800 horsepower from the its 6.5-liter V12, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the Aventador SVJ becomes the fastest production car to lap the Nurburgring.
