This is our first look at the double cab version of the 2019 GMC Sierra.
GMC has expanded the with the next-generation Elevation model, adding more style to the rugged full-size pickup. Joining the Denali, SLT and recently revealed AT4 trims when the model launches this fall, the Sierra Elevation is distinguished by its body-colored door handles, bumpers and grille surround. Instead of chrome accents like on other trims, the Elevation features black accents on the grille insert, tow hooks, side window trim and standard 20-inch aluminum wheels.
It still comes with LED headlights and fog lights as standard, though. The Elevation is based off the Sierra 1500's double cab body shown for the first time, and can be configured with two- or four-wheel-drive. Compared to the current model, the next generation double cab has nearly three inches of additional rear-seat legroom. While there’s an emphasis on style, the Sierra Elevation can still be equipped to be a capable off-roader. An optional X31 Off Road Package adds unique suspension tuning with Rancho shocks, locking rear differential, Hill Descent Control, protective underbody skidplates, heavy-duty air filter, dual exhaust system, a two-speed transfer case with low-range gearing, and all-terrain tires.
As standard, the Elevation packs a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder under the hood that produces 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque. Alternatively, the mill can be upgraded to a 5.3-liter V8. No output figure has been released, but the same engine in the Chevrolet Silverado produces 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic. The Sierra Elevation will also be offered with a 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel paired with a 10-speed automatic in early 2019. Inside, the Elevation features an eight-inch infotainment screen, which can be upgraded to a premium version with a higher resolution and voice recognition. A seven-speaker Bose stereo is also available.
“The 2019 Sierra Elevation conveys a youthful, athletic presence that demonstrates GMC’s tailored approach,” said Rich Latek, GMC marketing director. “With inherent truck capabilities and functionality, Elevation is able to take you off the beaten path along with your gear while standing out from the pack.”
