In fact, according to IHS Markit global light vehicle registration data, in 2017, more than one-third of the Mustang’s sales came from export markets in Europe and Asia, leaving the United States responsible for more than 80,000 sales.
“The world is falling in love with Mustang,” says Erich Merkle, Ford sales analyst. “Mustang represents the best of American design, performance, and freedom, with an unmistakable personality that appeals – regardless of your postcode.” One market with that remains particularly strong is China, where the Mustang was easily the best selling sports coupe last year based on 7,125 registrations.
Globally, customers continue to opt for the Mustang GT and its 5.0-liter V8 with far more frequency than the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder. Additionally, while the Mustang continues to enjoy favor with male buyers, women are increasingly attracted to the pony car. Ford’s research shows a 10 percent gain in women buyers in the last five years. Since Ford began selling the Mustang in global markets in 2015, the company has sold 418,000 Mustangs around the world. Pricing for the 2018 Mustang starts at $26,485 with destination while a fire-breathing Mustang GT will set you back at least $35,995 in the United States.
