The patent number D821,923 was applied for by GM’s technology subsidiary on February 14th, 2017, and has recently been granted on July 3rd, 2018. It is easy to tell this is a Cadillac coupe, because the design . Interestingly, the Escala was originally envisioned as a flagship model, but the CT5 will compete against smaller models like the BMW 4 Series and Mercedes C-Class. The original Escala concept was also a sedan, so it will be interesting to see if Cadillac builds a CT5 sedan or a larger model flagship model.
If this patent filing turns out to be for a flagship model, it could compete against the Lexus LC and BMW 8 Series. In any case, we are looking forward to seeing the Escala design language on a production Cadillac model.
