Building A Dream Garage With Only GM Cars Yields Spectacular Results

Feature

With GM's many brands, there's no need to buy any other cars.

A little while ago, we though it would be a fun idea to build a dream garage using models . The budget was unlimited and the goal was simply to put together the most awesome, well balanced garage possible. This time, we will be taking a look at the models under the General Motors umbrella of brands to see how awesome our dream garage turns out. Even though GM doesn't own any exotic brands like Lamborghini or Bugatti, the results are still pretty amazing.

No list of amazing GM cars could be complete without talking about the Corvette Z06. The C7 Z06 is perhaps the most impressive car that GM has ever built thanks to a 650 horsepower 6.2-liter supercharged V8. Even though the Z06 starts at under $80,000, it has the performance to match cars that cost four times as much.

What is even cooler than a two-door sports car with a 6.2-liter supercharged V8? Obviously a four-door sedan with the same engine. When Cadillac was getting ready to reveal the third generation CTS-V, we didn't know it could possibly top the previous model's 556 horsepower 6.2-liter V8 without switching to turbochargers. The CTS V-Sport used a turbocharged V6, so we thought that turbos on the CTS-V would be inevitable. Cadillac surprised us all by dropping the LT4 V8 from the Z06 into its midsize luxury sedan. The result is a Cadillac sedan which produces an insane 640 horsepower. Unfortunately there is no longer a manual option, but since we already have the Z06 in the garage, we are fine with the automatic.

For an off-road beast, we knew we had to turn to GM's truck brand, GMC. We specifically chose the GMC Sierra All Terrain X Special Edition. This special edition model is F-150 Raptor. GMC equipped this Sierra with tons of off-roading equipment such as hill decent control, transfer case shield, Rancho monotube shocks, Eaton locking differential, and the Z-71 Off-Road suspension package. On the exterior, the Terrain X Edition gets a monochromatic design with a bespoke front grille. This truck can pull double duty getting dirty on the trails and hauling all of your stuff and your family when it's time to take a road trip.

We went outside of the box with this pick, the Opel Insignia VXR. In the US, we do get a slightly different version of the Insignia which is badged as the Buick Regal. Unfortunately, the most potent version that we get is the 256 horsepower Regal GS sedan. Since this is our dream GM garage, we want the more powerful Insignia VXR in the . The VXR version of the Insignia comes with a 2.8-liter twin-turbo V6 which produces 325 horsepower. This badass wagon would make the perfect daily drive to haul around lots of stuff and still give Mustangs headaches in a drag race.

Since this is our dream garage, and anything is possible, we would easily pick the Holden Maloo GTS. The Holden Maloo is basically the Australian version of the Chevy El Camino that GM should never have stopped building. The GTS version is the top-of-the-line model which comes with the supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8 from a Camaro ZL1. This means that the Maloo GTS produces 580 horsepower going to a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual. Only were built, but we won't be denied in our ultimate GM dream garage.
