The truck costs "only" $60,000.
We all wish we could be in the position 54-year-old Michael J. Weirsky is in now. The New Jersey resident recently won the Mega Millions lottery, which reached $273 million the night the numbers were drawn. Weirsky, who has been divorced for 15 years and was struggling financially to get by, opted to take the lump sum of $162.5 million after taxes. Uncle Sam certainly takes his fair share but it’s not like Weirsky will be poor. Not even close. But instead of heading directly to his local Ferrari, Lamborghini or, heck, Bugatti dealership, Weirsky prefers for his first major new purchase to be a little bit more modest. Forget those exotics, he’s buying a $60,000.
"First thing I’m doing is buying my new pickup, a ,” he said. "It’s something I’ve wanted for a long time, and I’m gonna get it.”
During the rough times, Weirsky dreamed of owning a Raptor. It was a way of distracting himself from life’s tough realities. But now everything is different. Weirsky no longer has to struggle and, of course, he can purchase his dream car. In fact, a new Ford Raptor can easily reach up to around $80,000 for a fully-loaded SuperCrew. Base price for a CrewCab model is about $55,000, so Weirsky isn’t even going all-out here. Good for him. He’s buying exactly the truck he wants even though he could afford much, much more.
It’s a good and modest start to a new life that could, unfortunately, turn into a nightmare like it has for countless past lottery winners. When one has never had that much money before they don’t know how to manage it all. They can easily fall pretty to swindlers and other so-called "money managers.” So best of luck to you, Michael. Enjoy your new truck and all of the off-road adventures you’ll have. Just know who your real friends are.
