The revitalized crossover has the looks to match its advanced tech.
The new Escape crossover and is yet another piece in Ford’s master plan to offer a model in practically every crossover/SUV segment out there. It is now on display at Ford's stand at the 2019 New York Auto Show and we took some time to take a closer look at this important new model.
The Escape is a key component in capturing market share from rivals and it has been packed with advanced tech and an array of advanced powertrains to do so. It is built on an all-new platform that will also be used on the upcoming crossover and despite being longer and wider is actually 200 pounds lighter than the previous model. The suspension has also been uprated to further enhance the driving experience.
Four new powertrains - two of which are hybrids - will be offered, ranging from 180 horsepower to 250 hp they are claimed to make the new crossover more efficient and quicker than ever before. Four trim levels will be made available, all will be offered with FordPass Connect, a technology which allows remote access and control via a connected smartphone.
Safety is taken care of by Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 feature, incorporating adaptive cruise control, auto braking assist and other active and passive driver aids, it is once again standard on all trim levels. Yet even the most technologically and dynamically advanced vehicle needs to be visually appealing and judging from what we saw on Ford’s stand this is definitely one of the more attractive crossover designs out there.
The new Escape sits the end result is a much sportier stance aided further by the tapering coupe-like rear end.
The larger wheels on the display cars also help fill out the arches while inside the materials used look and feel far better than on the outgoing car. in fall with hybrid models expected to follow early next year.
