Is Hyundai testing the water for an Elantra N model?
After the Veloster N became Hyundai’s first true hot hatch in America, the automaker started rolling out. The latest model to get the N Line treatment is the , which has arrived with sporty looks and chassis improvements. There is a catch, though – it’s only available in Canada, at least for now.
While you could easily write the Elantra GT N Line off for only being a cosmetic package, it comes with a host of sporty features that improve the performance including larger brakes, stiffer springs, re-tuned dampers and a quicker steering rack. It also has stiffer engine and transmission mounts.
Other upgrades include sportier N Line front and rear fascias, N Line side mirrors, N Line rear badging and 18-inch N Line wheels. A leather-wrapped N Line steering wheel, N Line sport seats, N Line gearshift knob, sport instrument cluster and red stitching distinguishes the cabin from the standard Elantra GT.
Power is provided by a 1.6-liter turbo-four that produces 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque and is available with either a six-speed manual or optional seven-speed DCT with paddle shifters. That’s the same output you get in the Elantra GT Sport, which is being replaced by the N Line in Canada.
Prices start at $27,199 CAD (around $20,310 US dollars) for the entry-level model and $30,699 CAD (around $22,900 US dollars) for the fully loaded Elantra GT N Line Ultimate. Hyundai says the Elantra GT N Line “points to a wider N Line expansion among other Hyundai products,” in Canada, but there's no word on US availability yet.
