Those off-road chops don't come for free.
At the 2018 Lost Angeles Auto Show, to sit between the CR-V and Pilot in its lineup. While of the Isuzu Rodeo, the new model is based on Honda's Global Light Truck platform, which also underpins the larger Pilot and Ridgeline pickup truck.
Don't be fooled into thinking the new Passport is simply a Pilot with less space. Honda has given this SUV real off-road credentials including an available i-VTM4 AWD system with active torque vectoring. The Passport's off-road capabilities are clearly factored in the price because it is actually a bit more expensive than the larger Pilot.
The base Passport Sport trim with FWD starts at $31,990 (not including a $1,045 destination charge), which is more than the base Pilot LX at $31,450. AWD is available starting at $33,890 ($34,935 with destination). Fuel economy for the base model is rated at 20/25/22 mpg city/highway/combined and those numbers drop by one mpg in each category with AWD. All Passport models regardless of trim are powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Even the most basic Passport comes well-equipped with Honda Sensing, LED low-beam headlights, fog lights, taillights and DRLs, push-button start with smart entry, two USB ports, and three-zone automatic climate control.
Stepping up to the FWD EX-L trim for $36,410 ($37,455 with destination) adds leather on the seats and steering wheel, a moonroof, power liftgate, blind spot monitoring, an 8-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear window sunshades, lumbar support, heated mirrors, and two additional USB ports. AWD is also available on the EX-L trim for $38,310 ($39,355 with destination).
The second-highest trim is the Touring, which costs $39,280 ($40,325 with destination) for FWD or $41,180 ($42,225 with destination) for AWD. This trim adds a foot-activated power liftgate, LED ambient lighting, parking sensors, navigation, and a premium audio system with 10 speakers. The top Elite trim starts at $43,680 ($44,725) with destination and comes with AWD as standard. It also adds ventilated front seats, auto-dimming side mirrors, a heated steering wheel, rain sensing wipers, and a wireless phone charger.
