Can it dethrone the Porsche 911 GT2 RS?
The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette is a superlative machine, setting records faster than the car can , which, at 2.8 seconds, is pretty darn fast. The new ZR1 has already at VIR, but GM clearly has its sights set on a much bigger prize. We saw early prototypes of the ZR1 in Germany, which was no surprise. When developing a track-focused, 755-horsepower sports car, it only makes sense to test in on the world's most famous race track.
Now Chevy has returned to Green Hell with a more production-ready prototype of the ZR1. Of course, it is possible that the company is just working out some of the kinks on the upcoming car, but we think GM is aiming for much more.
The Camaro ZL1 1LE was able to , and the Corvette Z06 was about two seconds quicker. A crowdfunded Dodge Viper ACR attempted to break the seven minute barrier in a RWD, manual production car, but failed to reach the mark by a little over three seconds. The ZR1 should be able to beat the ACR, but can it match the likes of the Lamborghini Huracan and Porsche GT2 RS? The GT2 RS set a lap time of 6:47.3, which will be pretty tough to beat. We'll see if the ZR1 has what it takes.
