What could BMW be cooking up?
This year's Frankfurt Motor Show promises to be an important event for BMW. The motor show will host the debut of the as well as the . If that wasn’t already a drool-worthy line-up, during the company’s second quarter conference BMW Chairman Harald Kruger announced that the automaker will unveil a “very exciting surprise” at the show in September. But what could it be? Kruger didn’t elaborate any further details, but the comments were made while he was discussing the company’s EV strategy.
This suggests that the new mystery model could be an electric car or a hybrid. If this is the case, rumor has it that BMW will be at Frankfurt to take on the recently launched Tesla Model 3 that will have a range of at least 250 miles, which would trounce the entry-level Model 3 which has a 220-mile range on a single charge. This would make sense, as BMW has already outlined plans to introduce electric variants of existing models. A rumor also recently suggested that BMW will use the Frankfurt Motor Show to unveil the developed in collaboration with Toyota, so it’s possible Kruger could be referring to the three-row SUV.
Kruger also happily announced that BMW has already received many customer reservations for the i8 Roadster, and predicted that the electric X3 due in 2020 will be “a hit with customers.” The BMW Chairman also reiterated plans to and introduce 40 new and updated models before the end of 2018, including the reborn 8-Series and its performance-orientated M sibling. We don’t have too long to wait to find out what BMW has been cooking up, as the Frankfurt Auto Show kicks off on September 14.
