Will the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS beat the 918 Spyder’s lap time?

Australian publication posed that question to Porsche’s motorsport boss Frank-Steffen Walliser. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Walliser is confident that the 911 GT2 RS will achieve a lap time around the Green Hell that breaks the seven-minute barrier. “This is the seventh generation of the 911. It’s all about sevens… It’s 700hp but it’s no seven at the Nurburgring,” he hinted. It’s worth remembering that the 918 Spyder held the Nurburgring lap record for several years with a time of six minutes and 57 seconds. If the GT2 RS beats that time, it would be an impressive achievement considering it costs considerably less and isn’t as exclusive.

Porsche hasn’t said when the GT2 RS will be unleashed onto the Green Hell, but we expect it will be equipped with the $31,000 weight-saving Weissach package to set the best possible time.
