Honda is asking you to mark July 14 on your calendar, as this is when the Japanese automaker will be taking the wraps off the all-new Accord mid-size sedan. The reveal event will be hosted in Detroit, which you’ll be able to watch in a YouTube Livestream event at 11:00 am eastern time. To build anticipation ahead of its Detroit debut, Honda has released a concept sketch previewing the tenth generation Accord’s new dramatic design. Sporting LED lights and a chrome bumper, the styling looks to take its cues from the current Civic.
As we know, the by two new direct-injected turbocharged options and the next generation of Honda's hybrid powertrain technology. Buyers who opt for the 2.0-liter engine, which is the same unit found in the Civic Type R, will have the option of a ten-speed automatic transmission. A six-speed manual transmission will also be available, along with a CVT. Scrapping the V6 may sound like sacrilege, but Honda promises that the 2.0-liter turbo-unit will be more powerful than the outgoing V6. Shame it won’t sound as good, though. We can only hope it will be .
The current V6-powered Accord packs 278 horsepower, whereas the Civic Type R has 306 ponies so expect the new Accord’s performance to slot somewhere in between. Honda promises the new mid-sized sedan will be the most fun-to-drive, premium and dramatically styled Accord yet. It's safe to say it has a lot to live up to - Honda touts the Accord as America’s best-selling midsize sedan cumulatively since 2001. No pressure, then. We’ll get to find out if the new Accord can live up to these lofty expectations in just under a month’s time.
