Looks like the beloved BMW M2 will be getting a name change and belated power upgrade next year.
When it launched last year, the BMW M2 was the most acclaimed performance car BMW had produced in years, but soon it will be replaced by a more powerful variant. It’s about time too. We’ve known that BMW is planning to unleash a hardcore Competition version of the M2 for some time now, but has learned that the more powerful CS model, which will reportedly be sold under the Competition name, will replace the standard M2 coupe in June 2018.

Rumors have suggested it will be powered by the same S55 unit as the M3 and M4, but de-tuned to produce around 405 horsepower compared to the 365 horses you get in the standard M2.
BMWBlog also suggests the sports coupe will pack nearly 369 lb-ft of torque, while purists will rejoice that a six-speed manual transmission will be offered as standard, with an optional seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic also available. New colors will be introduced for the M2 CS including Silver Hockenheim and a more striking Sunset Orange in addition to the M2’s current color range of Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Mineral Grey and Long Beach Blue Metallic.

Also expect the M2 CS to be fitted with performance-enhancing aerodynamics and lightweight materials, along with sports suspension to rival the Porsche Cayman GT4. Of course, the M2 isn’t the only BMW getting the hardcore CS treatment. BMWBlog reports that the BMW M3 CS will be unveiled this month to join its bigger brother, the M4 CS, as a swansong for the current-generation 3 Series, which was recently spied at the Nurburgring being put through its paces. Its twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six will receive a power increase to around 460 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful M3 yet.

Components borrowed from the M4 CS include a vented carbon fiber hood, front spoiler lip and a prominent rear spoiler. Also expect to see the same OLED taillights and 19-inch front/20-inch rear alloy wheels as the M4 CS.
