Gordon Murray's new sports car will feature some of the most advanced aerodynamics of any road car.
In case you hadn’t heard, Gordon Murray, the man who famously designed the legendary McLaren F1 back in the 1990s, is launching a new car company that specializes in producing bespoke cars with innovative designs. A special ‘One Formula’ exhibition is currently being held at Dunsfold Park in England gathering 40 road and race cars penned by the legendary designer, including Ayrton Senna's 1988 McLaren MP4/4 and the McLaren F1 driven by Andy Wallace which set a 240 mph speed record in 1998.

At the event, Gordon Murray Automotive announced plans to build an all-new sports car under its new IGM brand which will be revealed at a later date. Shown for the first time in a teaser photo, the sleek two-seater sports car commemorates 50 years of Gordon Murray car design. It will be the first car sold under Gordon Murray Automotive’s new IGM brand and is “inspired by the engineering principles of the McLaren F1,” meaning it will be lightweight and fun to drive. Don’t expect it to be as powerful as the F1 though, as the car is being built “for contemporary driving conditions,” but will incorporate “some of the most advanced aerodynamics yet seen on a road car.”

The unnamed sports car will be built using a new version of Gordon Murray Design’s innovative iStream production process. iStream superlight employs high-strength aluminium sections in place of the steel used in iStream and iStream Carbon, resulting in further weight reduction that’s 50 percent lighter than a modern vehicle chassis, as well as being more rigid than the current process. The re-launched IGM brand will feature on all future in-house projects by Gordon Murray Automotive, featuring a logo inspired by the badging on Gordon Murray’s first car, the ‘T.1’ IGM Ford Special, which he raced successfully in South Africa in 1967 and 1968.
