After the Mission E, Porsche's next EV will likely be an all-electric Macan.
Porsche is slowly starting to outline its electrified future. As we know, the carmaker's first fully-electric car will be the production version of the Tesla Model S-rivaling Mission E sports sedan expected to launch by the end of the decade. An all-electric 911 may also happen eventually, but not for at least another decade. In fact, Porsche’s second EV won’t even be a sports car. According to a report by , Porsche is aiming to roll out its second EV before 2025.

Porsche development chief Michael Steiner revealed that Porsche’s second EV will most likely be an SUV rather than a sports car. "We're starting with a sporty four-door concept in the Mission E positioned between the 911 and the Panamera, so it's logical that we will look to balance our lineup with a product in a different segment such as an SUV," Steiner said. This means that Porsche could be plotting a fully electric Panamera, Cayenne or Macan. However, a statement by Porsche’s North America CEO Klaus Zellmer heavily implies that the Macan is the most likely candidate to be fully electrified.

While nothing official has been announced, Zellmer admitted that an electric Macan “could be a possibility” in the first half of the next decade. While the Porsche Mission E is now one step closer to production, Porsche’s electrified cars have been proving popular so far. According to Steiner, around two thirds of all Panameras sold in Europe are plug-in hybrid variants. As for the fully electric 911, that won’t happen for another 10 – 15 years as Porsche is waiting for battery technology to evolve since the weight of current batteries hampers the performance.
