Some things just have to happen. This is one of them.
Many people are perfectly happy with a stock Mazda MX-5 Miata. They don’t feel the need to make any changes, and that’s just fine. However, those who want to be a bit more adventurous have plenty of options. Perhaps one of those most extreme of these is to ditch the standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder for a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 crate engine. Yes, that V8 will fit in the MX-5’s engine bay. Matt Farah sampled this very MX-5 on this latest episode of The Smoking Tire and of course he loved it because who wouldn’t?
And here’s something vital to know: the LS3 was initially designed for a car that weighs around 4,000 lbs. This MX-5 tips the scale at just 2,600 lbs. Because of this massive influx of power, the car’s creators, Flyin’ Miata, had to make a number of modifications.

These included a full suspension upgrade, and bigger wheels and tires. From the inside everything still looks fully stock, and that’s good. There’s no reason to change an already fantastic interior design. As you can probably guess, this thing is ridiculously fast and yet it’s extremely well-balanced given that power-to-weight ratio.
