Because there's always room for improvement.
Because it’s Ferrari, leaving the already outstanding track-only FXX K alone wasn’t possible. There’s always more that can be done, and now it’s happened. Presenting the Ferrari FXX K Evo, a lighter and more aerodynamically superior track weapon. Ferrari hasn’t announced how many examples are planned or exact pricing, but existing FXX Ks can also be upgraded with this package. Let’s talk details.

In a nutshell, Ferrari went crazy with the aerodynamics, starting with a newly evolved aero package that sees downforce coefficient improved by 23 percent, the equivalent of a 75 percent increase from the Ferrari LaFerrari road car it’s based on. Ferrari claims some 1,410 pounds of downforce is generated at 124 mph, and exceeds 1,800 pounds at red-line speed. Ferrari says it took design elements from Formula 1, GT, GTE and other racing series in order to achieve those figures. An entire year was spent in special simulations and wind tunnel testing in order to get the aerodynamics just right. In turn, the FXX K Evo aerodynamics deliver downforce figures nearly the same as GT3 and GTE race cars.

Externally, the differences between the FXX K Evo and the “standard” FXX K are pretty apparent. Downforce is boosted by a twin-profile fixed wing on the tail, which Ferrari claims works in seamless synergy with the active rear spoiler. Ferrari claims the pressure fields developed by the two downforce-generating systems support and even amplify each other, thus guaranteed excellent downforce and drag results. The twin-profile rear wing, as you can see, is supported by two side fins and a central fin. What’s interesting is that the central fin has two tasks: as a vertical fin, it boosts stability at low yaw angles and, secondly, supports the action of the three triangular vortex generators.

Even the sides of the front bumper were altered by hollowing out the surfaces beneath the headlights, making space for a couple of flicks divided by a vertical turning vane and an additional intake ahead of the front wheels. Performance was improved so much, in fact, that engineers had to create new front brake air intakes and recalibrate the suspension. Inside, there’s a new steering wheel and a larger rear video camera screen for the driver. Given all of these upgrades to an already outstanding track machine, we wouldn’t be surprised to learn all existing FXX K owners opt for the Evo upgrade. Worth. Every. Penny.
