Who needs a haunted house when you can scare people with speed?
Halloween is right around the corner. Synonymous with fear, we wanted to mark the occasion with a top five list of the scariest cars on sale today. This list will mostly focus on speed and how well the car could fill a passenger with terror. Cars like the Dodge Viper would have been perfect, but we wanted to focus on models that are still in production. These five cars will definitely help the driver scare the hell out of their passenger on Halloween.

The Dodge Demon. Not only does this car have a name that evokes a sense of terror, it has the performance to back it up. It won't take long for YouTube to be bombarded with people taking their mothers, grandmothers and girlfriends out for their first ride in the Demon to film their hilarious reactions. We have no doubt that the passengers may need to change their pants when the Demon's 840 horsepower lifts the front wheels off the ground and rockets the car to 60 mph in just 2.3 seconds. The Demon easily has the scariest name on this list, and probably the most terrifying performance.

The Porsche 911 has always had a bit of a reputation as a widow-maker, and no 911 has ever been more terrifying than the GT2 RS. The latest 991.2 911 GT2 RS is so fast that it set a Nurburgring lap record of 6:47.3. Even though this car is extremely capable, it takes a very skilled driver to properly control the car's 700-hp twin-turbo flat-six. We've only had the chance to drive the GT2 RS in Forza, but we can tell that this car would be terrifying to drive at its limit. The GT2 RS wasn't built for straight line speed, but the car can still pin passengers in their seat with a 2.7-second 0-60 mph time.

If you think that the Dodge Demon is just a fast version of a rental car and the 911 is just something that dentists drive, we guarantee that our next choice would scare even the most seasoned car enthusiast. The Ariel Atom is a track day car that can be driven on the road. Unlike any other car on this list, there's no body work to speak of. That means that if you don't wear a helmet, the Atom will rip your face off. The Atom accelerates like a rocket ship, especially the 500-hp V8 version. There is also the constant fear that if you get hit in the Atom, you will almost certainly not walk away from the crash.

The Ferrari F12 was actually criticized for having too much horsepower. Even Jeremy Clarkson, a reviewer known for demanding more POWER, said that the F12 was a bit of a handful. So what does Ferrari do with its successor? It adds even more power. The 812 Superfast now has a 6.5-liter V12, which produces 60 more horsepower than the F12 for a total of 789 hp. This gets the car up to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds. Even though the 812 may be one of the softest cars on this list, it is also one of the most powerful. We have no doubt that the most powerful car in the Ferrari range can still frighten its passengers.

There is no way that we could do this list without including what was the quickest production car in the world (before the Demon came out). The Tesla Model S P100D with Ludicrous Mode is able to hit 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. MotorTrend was even able to get the car below the Demon's time with a 2.2755-second run. This car could potentially be the quickest car in the world, and it does so while offering five seats and two trunks. Not only is the Model S fast, but it pins you to your seat in a way that almost no other car does. As we have seen from the numerous launch videos, the Model S accelerates so fast that is can actually make people physically sick.
