If Marchionne says that it's happening, it's probably happening.
The back and forth on the Ferrari SUV rumor is starting to get a bit taxing. We first heard that Ferrari was building its first , despite utter denial from the company itself. Then we heard that the rumored vehicle , but rather something that Ferrari wants to call an FUV, whatever that means. Then we heard yet another rumor that the company had still about the FUV. Now the rumor mill is turning yet again thanks to FCA's own CEO, Sergio Marchionne, who has .
Speaking to , Marchionne confirmed that the company is beyond just considering this model and that Ferrari simply needs to decide on how many to produce. The FUV will reportedly take around 30 months to reach production, and Ferrari needs to decide how many it will build in order to maintain brand exclusivity. Talking about this upcoming model, Marchionne said “We’re dead serious about this and we need to learn how to master this whole new relationship between exclusivity and scarcity of product, then we’re going to balance this desire to grow with a widening of the product portfolio.” In the same interview, Marchionne alsoto the Chinese company, Great Wall.
Given that Marchionne actually runs the company, we'd say that we can take his word about the upcoming Ferrari SUV. We can't find any reason why Marchionne could be creating a smokescreen about the upcoming Ferrari model or the sale of the Jeep brand. It looks like Ferrari will soon have its first SUV and the Jeep brand will remain a part of FCA.
