That's what you call one expensive SUV.
Mercedes decided to push the fabled G-Class to the extreme before introducing the first new generation since the SUV's inception back in 1979. In recent years we’ve enjoyed the G63 AMG 6x6 and G500 4x4 Squared, but the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet is perhaps the finest iteration of the Gelandewagen the world has ever seen. No surprise to hear then that the final model of the ultra-limited 99-unit production run fetched a cool $1.4 million when it crossed the auction block at Bonham’s Zoute auction.

The winning bid of 1.2 million Euros is almost twice that of the original 630,000-Euro asking price, which is a good thing as all proceeds went to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, a charity long supported by Mercedes-Benz. The Maybach G650 was the pick of the lots, with other notable sales including a delicious 1993 Jaguar XJ220 that went for 391,000 Euros, a 1957 Porsche 356A Speedster that went for the same amount, a 1968 Ferrari 365 GTC that sold for 805,000 Euros, a 2000 BMW Z8 (316,000 Euros), 1965 Jaguar E-Type Roadster (250,700 Euros) and a 1967 Citroen DS21 convertible (218,500 Euros).

To recap, the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet measures in at 17.3 feet in length, standing 7.2-feet tall and boasting a massive wheelbase of 11.15 feet. An AMG-powered 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 delivers 621 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque. Equipped with portal axles, locking differentials, and a 450-mm ground clearance, it is more than a capable offroader, yet the rear compartment, constructed by Maybach, is about as opulent as you can get borrowing the luxurious seats from the S-Class.
