Mazda's Rumored New Rotary Concept Could Be This Sleek Sedan

In any case, it will preview the next phase of Mazda's design language.

Last month we learned , which kicks off in a couple of weeks. No other details were given regarding the concept’s body style, specifically meaning whether it’ll be a sports car, like the stunning RX Vision, or something else. Today we might have our answer. Might. Mazda has announced it’ll debut a new sedan concept previewing the next generation of KODO design language inspired models.

What wasn’t stated in the press release is whether the concept will also preview a rotary engine. We hope so, because we know for a fact Mazda is working on a new rotary engine after we spoke with Mazda Vice President for R&D at Frankfurt in September. Alongside this concept at Tokyo will be a second one, a compact hatchback that, according to Mazda, “fuses next-generation technology and design,” and is powered by the SkyActiv-X gasoline engine, the first of its type to use a compression ignition. Chances are, this concept previews the next generation Mazda3 hatch, which we also know will be powered by a SkyActiv-X engine.

A pair of new production Mazdas will also be displayed, the special edition Mazda MX-5 Red Top and the three-row crossover. The MX-5 will feature a dark cherry red canopy and auburn Nappa leather upholstery. More details to come hopefully soon.
