Spied & Rendered: 2012 Vauxhall Corsa SUV

Opel's German based engineers have been the force behind the upcoming 2012 Vauxhall Corsa SUV. The Corsa will be priced around £14,000.

The upcoming Vauxhall Corsa-based SUV was recently spotted testing again and has also been rendered before it hits the streets sometime in 2012. Developed by GM Daewoo in South Korea, it is based on the Gamma II platform that has already spawned the Chevrolet Spark and Aveo. Opel's German based engineers will use it as the basis for all Vauxhall small cars in Europe, which will replace the SCCS platform underpinning the current Punto.

This upcoming SUV will be the first Vauxhall on the platform, closely followed by a replacement for the current Corsa and new Allegra city car. There will also be a Chevy badged sub-compact SUV based on the same platform, dubbed the "T2X". Under the hood, the upcoming Corsa will generate power from either a four-cylinder 1.4-liter turbo gasoline engine churning out between 120-140hp, a 1.6-liter gasoline with 180hp, or a four-cylinder 1.7-liter diesel engine cranking out between 110-130hp. There is also the possibility of an EcoFLEX 1.3-liter diesel with 95 horses.

Transmissions will be either five- or six-speed manuals or an automatic. Also available will be two and four wheel drive versions, each with the same raised height. The Vauxhall Corsa will directly rival the MINI Countryman and Nissan Juke in addition to a pair of upcoming SUVs based on the Peugeot 208 and the Ford Fiesta. The Corsa SUV will be priced somewhere in the neighborhood of £14,000. Photos courtesy of Gmotors.
