New Tesla Roadster Imagined In Radical Render Design

We can only hope that the new Tesla Roadster will look as radical as this.

In the next few years, Tesla will be expanding its line-up of EVs with the launch of the Model 3 in just a few weeks and the compact Model Y crossover in 2019. Consequently, the upcoming new Tesla Roadster probably isn’t a high on Elon Musk’s priority list right now, but the CEO has dropped a few tantalizing tidbits about its abilities. Musk is targeting a , so the second-gen Roadster will no doubt set the new performance benchmark for EVs when it eventually launches.

We still have no idea what it will look like, however, so it was inevitable that talented render artists would dream up some designs. Dubbed the Tesla Roadster Y Concept, this latest design study is the work of Brazilian artist . To achieve its ambitious acceleration targets, the new Tesla Roadster will need to be much smaller and lighter than the Model S. The Roadster Y Concept certainly fits the bill, but it’s a radical departure from Tesla’s design language. In fact, the only similarity it shares with the Model Y is the lack of side mirrors. Notable design features include an aggressive front fascia, LED daytime running lights, a removable windshield and a rear charging port which probably isn't ideal.

Sadly, it seems unlikely that the new Roadster will look anywhere near as radical as this when it enters production in a few years, but we can hope. Musk has previously said that it will “look a little different, a little faster, and a little bigger" than the first-gen Roadster, and it will be built on a modified version of the Model 3’s platform instead of a Lotus Elise.
