The Ferrari California T Is The Perfect First Ferrari For Aston Martin Drivers

Just don't call it the entry-level Ferrari.

When the Ferrari California was revealed back in 2008, many brand purists weren’t exactly thrilled. After all, the first generation California was originally intended to be a Maserati. But mostly it was the car’s design; in the eyes of many. Jump forward to 2014 when its successor, the California T, was revealed, and you could hear the huge sigh of relief among those very same purists.

Powered by a new 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with a total of 552 hp and 557 lb-ft of torque, but it’s also the perfect first Ferrari for those tired of driving an Aston Martin. We recently had some time with the 2016 Ferrari California T and were suitably impressed. Check out our latest unboxing video for all of the details.

Yes, the reason why Ferrari decided to enter the V8 GT car segment was to compete with Aston Martin as well as Jaguar. Why should the Brits dominate this segment when Ferrari knew it could create something just as good, if not better? While the 2008 California was a decent, although flawed, first attempt, the California T hits all of the right notes. It sounds beautiful – that twin-turbo V8 is very similar to the one found in the 488 GTB – and its folding hardtop is a work of engineering genius. Thanks to , California for letting us film the car.
