We made a new friend!
As we previously reported, that will be based on the Nissan Navara, which isn’t sold in the US. We’re still stuck with the dozen-year old Frontier for reasons we don’t know why. Thanks, Nissan. And today our spy photographers caught an early prototype testing but its driver wasn’t happy. The guy gave our guy the finger. Because friendship. Anyway, the Navara-based Mercedes truck, possibly to be called GLT, will share a lot of the Nissan’s architecture but will have a unique design inside and out.
Daimler is handling the engineering and design work, and the target customers are those living in Europe, Australia, South Africa and Latin America. It could even be sold in the US if production takes place at Nissan’s plant in Mexico. That would allow Mercedes to import it to the US without tariffs. Both four- and six-cylinder engines are expected as well as a diesel. A six-speed manual or seven-speed slushbox mated to Mercedes’ 4MATIC all-wheel drive system is .
